Whew!
Life took an unexpected turn in early March, and my focus shifted from being a full-time entrepreneur to a full-time caretaker. My dad, who had enjoyed near perfect health, suddenly fell ill, rapidly declining from perfect health on March 2nd to being near death by March 8th, due to a severe kidney infection. He initially thought he had the flu; unfortunately, it was much worse. The infection spread to his bloodstream, causing septic shock and eventually shutting down every organ one by one.
Before realizing his illness, he experienced dizziness and fell in the bathroom, breaking both of his ankles. Yes, you read that right! So, he’s been confined to a wheelchair for nearly two months, needing clearance from multiple doctors before undergoing ankle surgery. This sudden change has clearly taken a toll on him, having to sit all day and rely on family for assistance—a stark contrast to his previously active lifestyle. Thankfully, the surgery was approved this Wednesday, with physical therapy expected to commence shortly afterward, potentially leading to his return to walking.
Thank Goodness For The Biz!
Amidst these chaotic events, I feel incredibly fortunate to have my online business as a stable pillar. While most of March was dedicated to caring for my dad and not much got done for the business, it’s been one of my best years in recent times.
In February, I achieved:
- $10K revenue from Merch By Amazon
- Over $13K in total print on demand revenue (Amazon, Etsy, RedBubble, Spreadshirt, Zazzle, etc.)—a milestone as this surpassed my largest affiliate income source.
While these numbers are impressive, it’s crucial to understand that Merch By Amazon is unpredictable. I’ve invested immense time and effort over the past year, with income fluctuating like a roller coaster. Thus, do not join expecting consistent monthly growth; treat it as vacation money! Nevertheless, my obsession with this opportunity remains undiminished.
I also had another record month with my PSP (Passive Shirt Profits) courses, which has been a long-standing business goal of mine. For years, affiliate income was my primary focus, but I’ve shifted the emphasis to course income. This change is partly due to recognizing that creating courses is more challenging than initially anticipated.
Just Launched a Course? You’re Not Done!
A key lesson learned from students in Passive Shirt Profits is that your work doesn’t end once you launch your courses. Many assume, "If I can just get my course launched, the hardest part will be over." This is wrong! The real work begins post-launch.
While creating course videos was straightforward for me, ensuring students can execute effectively is a continuous challenge. Your initial version of the course might be far from perfect; student feedback and questions are invaluable tools for improvement.
Staying In Touch With Students
This year, I introduced weekly strategy tips for my Merch Course students, which has proven beneficial for both myself as an instructor and several students.
